On Thursday, December 8, SCAI Women in Innovations (“WIN”) and the American College of Cardiology teamed up to host the first ever Gender Data Forum. The forum gathered trial investigators from major ACS/AMI trials from around the world to present and discuss the gender data from those trials.
The forum also brought together partner organizations such as WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease, the Food and Drug Administration, and The Society for Women’s Health Research. Industry was also invited, and attendees included representatives from The Medicines Company and Astra Zeneca. The goal was to bring in the various stakeholders in women’s heart health to view the latest scientific data and generate collaborative ideas for improving patient care for women with heart disease.
After a day of engaging presentations and discussions, the forum participants decided to produce a white paper, summarizing findings and providing a set of recommendations for future projects and areas of study that will advance the cause and quest to reduce disparities in cardiovascular care.
SCAI plans on hosting a second data forum next year, to focus on cardiovascular devices. Details to be posted on www.scai-win.org.
